Casey K.C. Lim, PhD, CFA

Dr. Casey Lim, CFA, is the Director of Aquewood Strategy Pty Ltd. He also teaches for Aquewood. He is a Malaysian citizen and is currently residing in Sydney, Australia. Casey is passionate about adopting the teaching style that brings out the best in his students and enhances their analytical skills. His style is to guide his students to analyse the various issues intuitively. He leads his students to think about the issues step by step so that students could deduce the answers to the problems by themselves.

Prior to launching Aquewood’s course programs in February 2021, Casey was the Program Director, China, for Macquarie University Business School. He co-managed the Macquarie Master of Applied Finance program that is offered in Beijing, China, in partnership with Tsinghua University’s School of Continuing Education. He had also taught for this program in Beijing. He had served as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Sydney, a Visiting Associate Professor of Finance at the City University of Hong Kong, an Adjunct Associate Professor of Finance at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and an Assistant Professor of Finance at the City University of Hong Kong.

He has taught Corporate Finance, Derivatives, Portfolio Management, International Banking, Risk Management of Financial Institutions and Fixed Income at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level in Hong Kong and Sydney. He also provided executive training for multinational corporations while he was in Hong Kong.

While he was previously based in Hong Kong, Casey provided management consulting services related to preparations of companies for financing, firm valuation, business strategy and business plans for a number of corporations. His clients are based in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Casey also consulted for the Consumer Council of Hong Kong while he was with the City University of Hong Kong. He examined the information disclosure by banks in Hong Kong in 1993, leading to the recommendation that banks should disclose more information to the public, including the disclosure of inner reserves and actual profits of banks.

Casey has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil, Honours) degree from the National University of Singapore, an MBA from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA, USA and a PhD in Finance from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA. He is a CFA holder. After graduating from the University of Florida, he joined the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. In 2013, he moved to Sydney from Hong Kong.

He was a member of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) and was a committee member of HKGCC Economic Policy Committee and Real Estate and Infrastructure Committee. He had served in various roles as a volunteer for the CFA Institute between 2000 and 2020. He had written examination questions for the Hong Kong Securities Institute and the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers.

He has published in several journals, including Journal of International Money and Finance, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting and Journal of Fixed Income.

Over his teaching career, Casey is very privileged to have taught hundreds of students. He keeps in touch with quite a number of his students. Casey is extremely pleased that some of his students have written about his passion for teaching.

Casey is very passionate about doing his part to protect the environment and is concerned about the health of all individuals. He strongly advocates a balanced and nutritious vegan diet for all. Since 2002, he has been on a vegan diet. He will write more on the highly positive impact of vegan diet on the environment and health of individuals
